Meet Dr Tom Barrett
Orthopaedic surgeon serving the George community as as well as the surrounding areas in the Garden Route: Mossel Bay, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Oudtshoorn for over 20 years.

Dr Tom Barrett grew up in Pretoria and studied medicine at the University of Pretoria, where he earned both his MBChB and a Master’s Degree (MMED) in Orthopaedics. After working in the UK, he returned to South Africa and, in 2005, became head of the Orthopaedics Department at George Provincial Hospital. Since 2008, he has practiced full-time at George Mediclinic.
His practice covers general orthopaedics and trauma, with a special interest in hand, ankle, and foot surgery. He discontinued spinal surgery in 2018 due to insurance constraints.
Outside of work, Dr Barrett enjoys motorsports, running, mountain biking, hiking, and exploring the Southern Cape and Klein Karoo. He has been married to Lesley-Ann since 1998, and they have three sons. A lifelong animal lover, he shares his home with three dogs and two cats. He also enjoys wine tasting, visiting local wine farms, and has a love of music that often accompanies him in the operating theatre.
